Description

A subglottic tumor more interfere with intubation and can be especially challenging if not previously diagnosed.


Clinical features:

(1) a biphasic wheeze may be misdiagnosed as asthma

(2) the patient may complain of stridor or shortness of breath

 

Sublgottic tumors may include:

(1) squamous cell carcinoma

(2) chondrosarcoma

(3) adenoid cystic carcinoma

(4) papilloma

(4) chondroma

(5) hemangioma

(6) neurofibroma

(7) fibroma

 

Preoperative ultrasonography can be helpful in making the diagnosis.

 

The tumor may interfere with cricothyrotomy.
