Description

Pseudoproptosis may be seen in a number of conditions.


The pseudoproptosis may be unilateral or bilateral.

 

Conditions in the differential diagnosis:

(1) asymmetry of the bony orbits

(2) congenital cystic eyeball

(3) contralateral enophthalmos

(4) facial asymmetry (facial hemiatrophy, other)

(5) Harlequin orbit (shallow orbit with arched lateral and superior walls)

(6) hypoplastic supraorbital ridges (trisomy 18, other)

(7) retraction of upper eyelid

(8) slight blepharoptosis of contralateral eye

(9) shallow orbit (Crouzon disease)

(10) unilateral congenital glaucoma

(11) unilateral high-axial myopia

(12) unilateral secondary glaucoma (secondary to childhood ocular trauma)
