Description

The diagnosis of Kawasaki disease requires exclusion of other conditions that share clinical features.


Differential diagnosis of Kawasaki Disease:

(1) measles

(2) scarlet fever

(3) drug reaction including the Stevens-Johnson syndrome

(4) other viral exathem (adenovirus, enterovirus, other)

(5) Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) or other Rickettsial infection

(6) Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome

(7) toxic shock syndrome

(8) systemic onset of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis

(9) leptospirosis

(10) mercury poisoning

 

A patient may have Kawasaki disease concurrent with another diagnosis, especially viral infection.
