Description

Intraocular calcifications may be seen on the clinical examination, but they are more likely to be identified on imaging studies. They can occur due to a number of conditions.


Malignant conditions associated with intraocular calcifications:

(1) intraocular sarcoma

(2) retinoblastoma

 

Nonmalignant causes of intraocular calcifications:

(1) congenital finding

(2) facial nevus of Jadassohn

(3) Gitelman syndrome

(4) recurrent iritis and keratitis

(5) retinal detachment

(6) ocular trauma

(7) ophthalmologic surgery

(8) end-stage retinopathy of prematurity

(9) calcific emboli of retinal and/or ciliary arteries

(10) cataract

(11) choroidal osteoma
