Hypotelorism is a lower than normal distance between the bony orbits and between the pupils (interpupillary distance.

 

Conditions associated with hypotelorism include:

(1) 18p- syndrome

(2) 5p- D syndrome

(3) cebocephalia

(4) Cockayne syndrome

(5) Coffin-Siris syndrome

(6) ethmocephalus

(7) familial hypotelorism

(8) fetal hydantoin syndrome

(9) frontonasal dysplasia syndrome (median cleft lip)

(10) Hallerman-Streiff syndrome

(11) holoprosencephaly (arrhinencephaly)

(12) Meckel-Gruber syndrome

(13) medium philtrum-premaxilla anlarge

(14) oculo-dental-digital dysplasia

(15) oculoauriculovertebral dysplasia (Goldenhar syndrome)

(16) Opitz trigonocephaly sydrome

(17) phenylketonuria (in fetus born to affected mother)

(18) Ring syndrome

(19) Schilbach-Rott syndrome

(20) Trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome)

(21) Trisomy 20p syndrome

(22) Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome)

(23) Turner syndrome

(24) Williams syndrome

(25) Wolf syndrome
