Eye ache (uncomfortable feeling in the eye, asthenopia) can occur in a number of conditions.
Disorders of the eye:
(1) scleritis or episcleritis
(2) glaucoma
(3) iritis or iridocyclitis
Disorders of the ocular vessels or optic nerve:
(1) passive congestion
(2) retrobulbar neuritis
Ocular muscles:
(1) weak accommodation
(2) phoria or tropia
(3) muscle spasm
Drugs:
(1) use of miotics
Other:
(1) exposure to very bright light
(2) neurasthenia (hysteria)
(3) sinus disease
(4) uncorrected refractive errors
