A number of conditions can result in an expansion of the optic canal.
Conditions associated with expansion of the optic canal:
(1) elevated intracranial pressure
(2) tuberculosis
(3) noninfectious granulomatous inflammation (sarcoid, nonspecific)
(4) chiasmatic arachnoiditis
(5) arteriovenous malformation
(6) ophthalmic artery aneurysm
(7) tumor (see below)
Tumors include:
(1) meningioma
(2) retinoblastoma
(3) optic nerve glioma
(4) neurofibromatosis
(5) metastatic tumor
