Description

Not all testicular masses are malignant, especially if they are cystic. When considering a cystic testicular or paratesticular mass it is important not to immediately go to orchiectomy.


Benign lesions:

(1) simple testicular cyst

(2) cyst of the tunica albuginea

(3) epididymal cyst

(4) epidermoid cysts

(5) benign dermoid cyst

(6) cystic degeneration after torsion

(7) cystic dysplasia of the rete testis

(8) tubular ectasia /cystic dilation of the rete testis

(9) juvenile granulosa cell tumor

(10) testicular cystic lymphangioma

 

Malignant tumors:

(1) cystic teratoma

(2) central necrosis of a solid tumor (seminoma, etc)

(3) cystic trophoblastic tumor

(4) endometrioid borderline tumor of the testis

(5) cystic mesothelioma of the testis

 

Cystic lesions of the testis may also be encountered in the inguinal region if there is an undescended testis.
