Description

Crystalline retinopathy may be caused by a number of conditions.


Causes of crystalline retinopathy include:

(1) chronic retinal detachment

(2) Biettti disease (Bietti crystalline dystrophy)

(3) Sjogren-Larson syndrome (oligophrenia-ichthyosis-spastic diplegia syndrome)

(4) cystinosis

(5) ornithine ketoacid aminotransferase deficiency (gyrate atrophy with hyperornithinemia)

(6) hyperoxaluria

(7) embolic retinopathy (talc, cholesterol other)

(8) drugs or chemicals  (nitrofurantoin, tamoxifen, gancyclovir, canthaxanthine, flupentixol)

(9) calcified drusen

(10) macular telangiectasia

(11) Kjellin syndrome
