Description

An elevation in the ST segment can be seen in a number of conditions.


Conditions associated with an elevated ST segment:

(1) acute myocardial infarction

(2) normal finding in healthy young men (male pattern)

(3) early repolarization

(4) as a normal variant (present in all ECGs)

(5) left ventricular hypertrophy

(6) left bundle branch block

(7) acute pericarditis

(8) hyperkalemia

(9) Brugada syndrome

(10) pulmonary embolism

(11) cardioversion (transient, after direct-current shock)

(12) Prinzmetal's angina (transient)

 

The conditions that most closely mimic myocardial infarction:

(1) pulmonary embolism

(2) Prinzmetal's angina
