Description

A number of conditions should be considered when diagnosing a patient with an arthropathy affecting both the spine and peripheral joints.


Patient selection: arthropathy affecting both the spine and peripheral joints

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) ankylosing spondylitis

(2) diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis

(3) hemochromatosis

(4) hyperparathyroidism

(5) calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (pseudogout)

(6) amyloidosis

(7) pigmented villonodular synovitis

(8) amiodarone

(9) ochronosis (alkaptonuria)
