Description

A number of conditions can result the optic canal having a decreased diameter.


Conditions associated with a narrow optic canal:

(1) developmental abnormality (see below)

(2) dysostosis (see below)

(3) osteitis of bone along the canal

(4) meningioma or other tumor

 

Developmental abnormalities include:

(1) anophthalmos or microphthalmos

(2) enucleation

(3) craniosynostosis

 

Dysostoses include:

(1) osteopetrosis

(2) fibrous dysplasia (Albright's disease)

(3) craniometaphyseal dysplasia (Pyle disease)

(4) Paget's disease of bone (osteitis deformans)
