Occasionally a patient may present with a bluish color to the nose.
The key question is whether the coloration is a discrete nodule or diffuse.
Causes of a discrete blue color to the nose:
(1) blue naevus
(2) pigmented hidrocystoma
(3) ink or tattoo
Causes of a diffuse blue color to the nose:
(1) acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura
(2) severe cold exposure
(3) cyanosis
(4) vasculitis
