Description

Lereuz-Ville et al used a simple diagnostic tree to evaluate a neonate or fetus for likelihood of a symptomatic cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. The authors are from Universite Paris Descartes, Assistance publique-Hopitaux de Paris, Hopital Necker-Enfants Malades Paris, Poissy Hospital, Hopital Intercommunal de Poissy-Saint Germain and Hopital Americain de Paris.

Patient selection: fetus or neonate of woman with evidence of a CMV infection during the pregnancy

Analysis: recursive partitioning

Parameters:

(1) platelet count per µL

(2) CMV DNA in fetal blood, in LOG10 IU/mL

Platelet Count

LOG10 CMV DNA

Percent Symptomatic CMV

<= 114,000 per µL

> 114,000 per µL

< 4.93 IU/mL

> 114,000 per µL

>= 4.93 IU/mL

whereL

• LOG10 4.93 corresponds to a count of 85,114 IU/mL
