Description

Nixdorf and Moana-Filho reported criteria for making the diagnosis of the Persistent Dento-Alveolar Pain (PDAP) Disorder.


 

Criteria for the diagnosis of the PDAP disorder:

(1) The patient has persistent oral pain.

(2) The pain is localized to the dento-alveolar region.

(3) The pain is not casued by another disorder or disease.

 

where:

• Persistent indicates that pain is present for >= 3 months with >= 8 hours per day for >= 15 days per month.

 

If not in close temporal relationship with a causal event then it is termed primary.

 

If in close temporal relationship with a causal event (facial trauma, dental procedure, infection, etc) then it is termed secondary.
