Description

Jansson et al reported major and minor criteria for the diagnosis of non-bacterial osteitis (NBO). The author are from Ludwig-Maximillians University in Munich, University of Washington in Seattle and the Technical University of Munich.


 

Major criteria:

(1) radiologically-proven osteolytic/osteosclerotic bone lesion

(2) multifocal bone lesions

(3) palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) and/or psoriasis

(4) sterile bone biopsy with inflammation, fibrosis and/or sclerosis

 

Minor criteria:

(1) normal blood count (CBC) and good general state of health

(2) ESR and CRP show mild to moderate elevations

(3) follow-up for > 6 months

(4) hyperostosis

(5) presence of other autoimmune disease (excluding PPP or psoriasis)

(6) first or second degree relatives with NBO, autoimmune disorder or autoinflammatory disease

 

The diagnosis of NBO can be made with:

(1) >= 2 major criteria

(2) 1 major AND >= 3 minor criteria
