Criteria for Diagnosis of Migraine

Does the patient have recurring headaches?

Do transient, focal aura (visual, sensory, aphasic, motor) accomapny the headache?

How many hours do untreated or unsuccessfully treated attacks last?

Is the headache unilateral?

Is the headache pulsating?

Is the headache moderate to severe, sufficient to disturb or preclude daily activities?

Is the headache aggravated by movement?

Does nausea or vomiting occur in association with the headache?

Does photophobia occur in association with the headache?

Does phonophobia occur in association with the headache?

Does the aura gradually develop over several minutes, or do several symptoms occur in succession?

Do the aura symptoms usually occur at alternating body sites in different attacks?

How many minutes to the aura symptoms last during a typical attack?

Does headache usually accompany the aura or follow within an hour?
