Description

A patient with type II diabetes is at increased risk for tendinopathy.

Features of diabetic tendinopathy:

(1) thickening of tendons

(2) tendonitis and/or bursitis

(3) increased stiffness

Affected tendons are at increased risk for tear or rupture.

Healing of the tendon is associated with fibrosis that is structurally weak, which predisposes to repeat injury.

Changes to tendons can be detected using ultrasonography.
