Description

The Diabetes Mellitus Risk Scoring Algorithm can be used to screen a patient for risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.


Parameters:

(1) body weight

(2) physical activity level

(3) age in years

(4) race

(5) family history of diabetes mellitus (DM)

(6) family history of hypertension

(7) hypertension

(8) hypercholesterolemia

(9) gestational diabetes

(10) maximum delivery weight of baby in pounds

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score for male: 13

• maximum score for female: 19

• A score >= 5 or >= 6 can be used to identify a patient who is high risk for type 2 diabetes.
