Muncie et al measured the height of a bedridden or chair-bound patient by measuring the lengths of body segments then summating them for a final height estimate.
Segment
Landmarks
1
top of head to spinous process of C7
2
spinous process of C7 to spine at the level of the anterior iliac crest
3
level of the anterior iliac crest to the level of the greater trochanter
4
level of the greater trochanter to the distal femur
5
distal femur to the bottom of the heel
where:
• If scoliosis or contractures are present, then it may be necessary to estimate the length of the involved segment.
total body height =
= SUM(lengths of all 5 segments)
