Description

Haukoos et al developed the Denver Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) risk score to help to identify patients who should be screened for HIV infection. The authors are from Denver Health Medical Center.


 

Patient selection: age >= 13 years of age from a sexually-transmitted disease clinic or ED

(5) vaginal intercourse

(6) receptive anal intercourse

(7) injection drug use

(8) past HIV testing

Interpretation:

• minimum score: -14

• maximum score: 81 (see caption to Figure 1 page 842).

• The higher the score the greater the risk for being HIV-positive.
