A patient with chronic hypoparathyroidism may have a number of changes involving the teeth.
Clinical findings that may be associated with chronic hypoparathyroidism:
(1) cemental hyperplasia
(2) enamel hypoplasia
(3) short, rounded dental roots
(4) hypodontia
(5) delay or lack of tooth eruption
(6) variable widening of the periodontal ligament space
A patient with one or more of these findings should be:
(1) asked about risk factors for hypoparathyroidism
(2) examined for other changes of hypoparathyroidism.
