Description

Elective nasal polypectomy is usually a low risk procedure. Rarely complications may develop that can be fatal.


Reasons for death following nasal polypectomy:

(1) perforation of the cribriform plate with:

(1a) intracranial hemorrhage

(1b) CSF leak and risk of meningitis

(1c) subdural or epidural abscess

(2) uncontrolled extracranial hemorrhage
