Dam Safety Action Classification (DSAC) System of the Army Corps of Engineers

The Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) uses a classification system for dam safety and the need for action.

Safety	Compliance with Essential Guidelines	Risk of Failure	Class	Urgency
immediate threat to public safety	certain to fail within a short period without immediate action	extremely high, imminent	I	very high
unable to assure public safety prior to remediation	failure may occur during normal operations or be triggered by an event	high to very high	II	high
significant inadequacies	does not meet essential guidelines	moderate	III	moderate
inadequate	may not meet all	low	IV	low
adequate	meets all	very low, tolerable	V	none (normal)
