Description

McHenry et al reported the Dallas Steatosis Index (DSI) to identify a patient at risk for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The authors are from Washington University and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Patient selection: adult from 18 to 65 years of age (from the Dallas Heart Study)

NAFLD: liver fat >= 5.5%, excluding greater than moderate alcohol intake

Parameters:

(1) sex

(2) age in years

(3) diabetes mellitus

(4) blood glucose in mg/dL

(5) known hypertension

(6) race or ethnicity

(7) serum triglyceride in mg/dL

(8) serum ALT in IU/L

(9) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.82.
