Criteria for Disability in Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome

Purpose: To evaluate the level of impairment experienced by a person with the cyclic vomiting syndrome based on the criteria of Fleisher et al.

Description

Fleisher et al graded the severity of disability associated with the cyclic vomiting syndrome. This can help determine the functional capacity of the patient before and after therapeutic interventions. The authors are from the University of Missouri in Columbia, UCLA, and the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association in Milwaukee.


 

Parameters:

(1) relative amount of time incapacitated

(2) ability to work or attend school

 

percent time totally incapacitated =

= (amount of time awake unable to function) / (total amount of time awake)
