Toxins: cycasin, macrozamin, neocycasin, beta-methylamino-l-alanine
Exposures may involve children or adults as well as pets.
Routes of exposure:
(1) ingestion (seeds, leaves, bark)
(2) dermal contact with or without skin puncture, including sap
Clinical signs of ingestion:
(1) vomiting
(2) abdominal pain
(3) diarrhea
(4) headache
(5) dizziness
(6) weakness
(7) tachycardia
Clinical signs of dermal contact:
(1) edema
(2) skin irritation
(3) pain
