Description

Myint et al created the CURSI score as a modification of the CURB-65 score. It can be used to predict outcome in a patient with comunity-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The authors are from multiple hospitals in England and Australia.

The CURSI and CURASI score differ in that the CURSI score uses the shock index and CURASI the adjusted shock index.

Parameters:

(1) confusion

(2) urea in mmol/L

(3) respiratory rate in breaths per minute

(4) shock index or adjusted shock index

where:

• The same cutoff is used for the adjusted shock index as for the shock index.

= SUM(points for all 4 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 4

• A score >= 2 indicates severe pneumonia (high risk).

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve was 0.66.
