Description

Kim et al reported CT predictors of unfavorable predictors after right colonic diverticulitis. The authors are from the Korean Air Force Education and Training Command, Chungnam National University and Bundang Jesaeng General Hospital in South Korea.


Patient selection: right-sided acute diverticulitis

 

Predictors for surgery:

(1) spilled feces sign (presence of amorphous material outside of the colon with gas bubbles and the same appearance as intraluminal feces; odds ratio 111)

(2) elevated WBC count (odds ratio 1.3)

 

Predictors for recurrence:

(1) > 5 diverticuli per 10 cm colon (odds ratio 4.1)

 

Predictors for prolonged hospital stay:

(1) abscess > 4 cm in diameter (odds ratio 4.1)

(2) inflamed diverticuli > 2 cm (odds ratio 3.7)
