Description

The ratio of IgG to albumin in the CSF may indicate increased antibody production within the CSF.

CSF IgG-to-albumin ratio =

= (CSF IgG in mg/dL) / (CSF albumin in mg/dL)

Interpretation:

• A normal ratio is <= 0.27

• A ratio > 0.27 indicates increased IgG synthesis.

Limitation:

• A bloody CSF tap can cause false positive results.
