Description

Tutor-Ureta et al listed criteria for poor outcome for a patient with pulmonary sarcoidosis. The authors are from Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro and Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in Spain.

Criteria for poor outcome in a patient with pulmonary sarcoidosis - one or the following:

(1) relapse during the first month after stopping corticosteroid therapy

(2) need for high dose corticosteroids (> 20 mg per day of prednisone or equivalent) to control symptoms for more than 1 month

(3) need for cytotoxic therapy such as azathioprine (corticosteroid-resistance)

Not meeting poor outcome indicated potentially favorable outcome:

(1) no need for therapy

(2) no relapse within 1 month of stopping corticosteroids

(3) no need for high dose corticosteroids or cytotoxic agents to control symptoms
