Description

Heidenreich and other members of the German Testicular Cancer Study Group (GTCSG) identified men with testicular cancer who may be candidates for tumor enucleation with testicular preservation. This may be appropriate for a young man to maintain fertility.


 

Patient candidates:

(1) bilateral testicular germ cell tumors or

(2) solitary testis with germ cell tumor

 

Criteria for organ preservation surgery:

(1) organ confined tumor

(2) maximum diameter < 20 mm

(3) multiple biopsies taken of the tumor bed

(4) normal serum LH preoperatively

(5) normal serum testosterone preoperatively

(6) delivery of adjuvant local radiation therapy postoperatively

(7) close followup

(8) high level of patient compliance
