Southwood et al developed criteria for the diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis in a pediatric population. The authors are from the University of British Columbia and the University of Manitoba in Canada.
Major criteria:
(1) onset of arthritis before 16 years of age that persists for at least 6 weeks, with either joint swelling or the presence of >=2 clinical findings (limited range of joint motion, pain on movement of joint, joint margin tenderness)
(2) typical psoriasis
Minor criteria:
(1) dactylitis (diffuse digit swelling that extends beyond the margin of the joint capsule)
(2) nail pitting (2 or more pits on the fingernails recorded at any examination)
(3) psoriasis-like rash
(4) family history of psoriasis (in 1 or more first and/or second degree relatives)
