Description

Scher et al listed criteria for cure and noncure of onychomycosis in a clinical trial. The authors are from multiple hospitals in the United States and Europe.


 

Criteria for cure – one or both of the following:

(1) complete absence of clinical signs of onychomycosis (without mycology testing)

(2) both of the following

(2a) negative mycological laboratory tests

(2b) one or more of the following:

(2b1) less than 10% of nail plate affected by distal subungual hyperkeratosis or onycholysis

(2b2) nail plate thickening that persists because of a comorbid condition

 

Criteria for noncure – one or both of the following:

(1) positive mycological laboratory results

(2) one or more of the following:

(2a) residual major changes of the nail plate compatible with a dermatophyte infection affecting > 10% of the nail

(2b) colored (white, yellow, or orange brown) patches or streaks in or beneath the nail plate

(2c) lateral onycholysis with debris in an otherwise clear nail plate

(2d) hyperkeratosis on the lateral nail plate

(2e) hyperkeratosis at the nailfold edge
