Sata et al reported criteria for alcoholic pancreatopathy. Alcoholic pancreatopathy is a pancreatic disorder associated with alcohol intake that precedes alcoholic chronic pancreatitis. The authors are from Jichi Medical University in Shimotsuke, Japan.
Criteria for alcoholic pancreatopathy - both of the following:
(1) history of excessive alcohol intake (> 80 g/day)
(2) one or more of the following:
(2a) history of alcoholic acute pancreatitis
(2b) recurrent abdominal pain or gastrointestinal symptoms induced by alcohol intake
(2c) hyperamylasemia or a high serum level of any other pancreatic enzyme
(2d) abnormal findings in the pancreas by routine abdominal ultrasonography
Performance:
• These criteria may be sensitive but may be less specific.
