Description

Rothe et al reported criteria for a urinary tract infection (UTI) in a hospitalized patient. The authors are from multiple institutions in Germany, Japan and London.


Patient selection: bacteriuria

 

Parameters:

(1) bacteremia from a urinary source with or without symptoms of UTI

(2) features of a systemic reaction (fever, organ failure or positive biomarker)

(3) genitourinary symptoms (acute dysuria, urgency, frequency, suprapubic tenderness, flank pain)

(4) presence or absence of an alternative source
