Rodeghiero et al reported criteria for the therapeutic response of a patient with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). The authors are from multiple institutions in North America and Europe.
Patient selection: immune thrombocytopenic purpura in adult or pediatric patient, status post initiation of appropriate therapy
Parameters:
(1) platelet count at start of therapy per microliter
(2) current platelet count per microliter
(3) clinical bleeding
change in platelet count =
= ((current platelet count) - (platelet count at start of therapy)) / (platelet count at start of therapy)

Time to response is the time from starting therapy to the time the complete or partial response achieved.
Corticosteroid-dependent: ongoing need for steroid therapy for >= 2 months to keep platelet count > 30,000 per µL or to avoid bleeding.
Loss of response:
(1) loss of complete response: platelet count < 100,000 per µL OR bleeding
(2) loss of partial response: platelet count < 30,000 per µL OR percent change < 200% OR bleeding
