Description

Roddy et al report criteria for the clinical diagnosis of Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever (MHF). This is modification of the WHO criteria for Ebola Fever. It was used to evaluate patients during an outbrok of MHF in Angola.


 

MHF is caused by the filovirus Lake Victoria marburgvirus (MARV).

 

Parameters:

(1) history of exposure to a patient with probable or definite MHF

(2) number of signs and symptoms

(3) fever

(4) unexplained hemorrhage

 

General signs and symptoms associated with MHF:

(1) asthenia (lack of strength and energy)

(2) anorexia

(3) myalgia or arthralgia

(4) diarrhea

(5) abdominal pain

(6) nausea

(7) vomiting

(8) headache

(9) dysphagia

(10) dyspnea

(11) conjunctivitis

(12) jaundice

(13) hiccups
