Description

Priori et al listed consensus criteria for the diagnosis of early repolarization (ER).

Criteria for the diagnosis of early repolarization syndrome - both of the following:

(1) J point elevation >= 1 mm in >= 2 contiguous inferior and/or lateral leads in the standard 12-lead ECG

(2) history of ventricular fibrillation and/or polymorphic ventricular tachycardia

(3) no other diagnosis explains the findings better

where:

• Lateral ECG leads: I, aVL, V5, V6

• Inferior ECG leads: II, III, aVF

The pattern of J point elevations are relatively common (up to 13% of the general population). It may be associated with male gender, athletes, African Americans, Southeast Asians, hypothermia and other arrhythmias. The diagnosis of ER syndrome requires the presence of the arrhythmia.
