Criteria for the diagnosis of early repolarization syndrome - both of the following:
(1) J point elevation >= 1 mm in >= 2 contiguous inferior and/or lateral leads in the standard 12-lead ECG
(2) history of ventricular fibrillation and/or polymorphic ventricular tachycardia
(3) no other diagnosis explains the findings better
where:
• Lateral ECG leads: I, aVL, V5, V6
• Inferior ECG leads: II, III, aVF
The pattern of J point elevations are relatively common (up to 13% of the general population). It may be associated with male gender, athletes, African Americans, Southeast Asians, hypothermia and other arrhythmias. The diagnosis of ER syndrome requires the presence of the arrhythmia.
