Oka et al listed criteria for the diagnosis of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS). The authors are from Hyogo College of Medicine in Japan.
Criteria for eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis:
(1) nasal congestion and disordered olfaction
(2) bilateral chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
(3) peripheral blood eosinophilia (percent > 7%)
(4) ethmoid sinuses opacified more than the maxillary sinuses(E > M, or E/M > 1)
NOTE: The relationship with nonallergic rhinitis with eosinophilia syndrome (NARES) needs to be clarified.
