Michet et al used a number of criteria to identify patients with relapsing polychondritis. The authors are from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
"A" findings:
(1) inflammation of auricular cartilage
(2) inflammation of nasal cartilage
(3) inflammation of laryngotracheal cartilage
"B" findings:
(1) ocular inflammation (conjunctivitis, keratitis, episcleritis, uveitis)
(2) hearing loss
(3) vestibular dysfunction
(4) sero-negative inflammatory arthritis
Criteria for the diagnosis of relapsing polychondritis - one or both of the following:
(1) number of A criteria >= 2
(2) number of A criteria = 1 AND number of B criteria >= 2
