Livengood et al used the Amsel criteria and Nugent score to determine cure in a woman treated for bacterial vaginosis. The authors are from multiple universities in the United States and Mission Pharmacal Company.
Criteria for cure:
(1) Amsel score 0 (out of 4)
(2) Nugent score <= 3
where:
• An Amsel score >= 3 indicates bacterial vaginosis.
• A Nugent score 4-6 indicated disturbed flora and 7-10 indicates vaginosis.
In theory these can be expanded to describe the therapeutic response:
Amsel Score

where:
• The study used an Amsel score of 4 but an Amsel score =3 also indicates vaginosis.
