Description

Liu et al reported criteria for the diagnosis of atopic dermatitis in a Chinese adolescent or adult. These can improve the accuracy of the diagnosis. The authors are from multiple institutions in China.


Patient selection: dermatitis

 

The dermatitis is typically pruritic.

 

Criteria for atopic dermatitis - all of the following:

(1) symmetrical eczematous dermatitis for > 6 months (may be persistent or recurrent)

(2) at least one of the following:

(2a) personal history of atopic disease

(2b) family history of atopic disease

(2c) elevated serum total IgE concentration

(2d) positive allergen-specific IgE

(2e) eosinophilia

 

Atopic disease includes:

(1) allergic rhinitis

(2) allergic asthma

(3) allergic conjunctivitis

(4) atopic dermatitis
