Lavonas et al reported criteria for when to consult an expert about a crotaline snakebite.


Patient selection: crotaline snakebite

 

When to consult an expert - one or more of the following:

(1) shock

(2) serious, active bleeding

(3) facial or airway swelling

(4) envenomation that is difficult to control (3 or more doses of antivenom for initial control)

(5) recurrent or delayed-onset venom effects

(6) allergic reaction to antivenom

(7) compartment syndrome or rhabdomyolysis

(8) bite to the head and neck

(9) complicated wound issues

(10) venom-induced angioedema
