Description

Kerzner et al reported criteria for an ideal classification of feeding difficulties. The authors are from Children's National Medical Center, Nationwide Children's Hospital, New York General Hospital and University of Toronto.


Features of an ideal classification system:

(1) systematically categorizes

(2) distinguishes between mild, severe and misperceived conditions (discriminative)

(3) identifies specific conditions (diagnoses, see below)

(4) each condition has specific treatment options are available (relevant for therapy)

 

Conditions should:

(1) be readily recognized

(2) use familiar and accurate terminology

(3) be logically related to each other

(4) be manageable in number
