Herbort et al reported criteria for the diagnosis of ocular sarcoidosis formulated at the First International Workshop on Ocular Sarcoidosis (IWOS). The authors are from multiple institutions from around the world.
Patient selection: possible ocular sarcoidosis (OS)
The criteria may be used for localized ocular involvement or part of systemic disease.
Parameters:
(1) biopsy consistent with sarcoidosis (noncaseating granulomas)
(2) compatible uveitis
(3) bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy (BHL)
(4) suggestive intraocular signs (out of 7)
(5) positive investigational tests (out of 5)
(6) other possible causes of uveitis (tuberculosis, etc) ruled out
