Description

Ege Rasmussen and Fano modified the criteria of Krout and Anderson to diagnose trochanteric bursitis in a patient with hip pain.


 

Criteria for the diagnosis of trochanteric bursitis - all of the following:

(1) aching pain along the lateral aspect of the hip

(2) distinct tenderness localized to the greater trochanter

(3) one or more of the following:

(3a) pain on forced hip abduction

(3b) pseudoradiculopathy (resembling sciatica, with pain extending down the lateral aspect of the thigh)

(3c) pain at the extreme of rotation, abduction or adduction (positive Patrick-fabere test)

 

where:

• Fabere = flexion, abduction, external rotation, extension.
