Description

Distler et al reported criteria for the diagnosis of progression in interstitial lung disease. The authors are from multiple institutions in Europe, the United States and Canada.

Patient selection: interstitial lung disease associated with scleroderma (systemic sclerosis)

Parameters:

(1) decline in FVC in percent, with FVC in liters

(2) decline in DLco in percent, with DLco in mL CO (STPD) per min per mm Hg

decline in percent =

= ((baseline value) - (current value)) / baseline value) * 100%

The period between baseline and current readings is generally 1-2 years. A decline over a shorter period is more rapid, while a decline over a longer period is slow.
