Description

Dinh et al reported criteria for treatment failure of a first course of antibiotic therapy. The authors are from multiple institutions in France and members of the Pneumonia Short Treatment (PTC) Study Group.


Patient selection: moderately severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP)

 

Assessment: evaluation at 15 days after start of antibiotic therapy

 

Criteria for treatment failure - one or more of the following:

(1) temperature > 37.9°C

(2) absence of resolution or improvement in respiratory symptoms

(3) additional antibiotic therapy for any cause
