Description

Braun et al listed criteria for the diagnosis of sinonasal sarcoidosis. The authors are from Hopital de Hautepierre in Strasbourg, France.


 

Diagnostic criteria:

(1) presence of chronic rhinosinusitis with changes documented on imaging studies

(2) poor response to conventional therapy

(3) noncaseating granulomas identified on biopsy

(4) elevated serum angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)

(5) diagnosis of systemic sarcoidosis

(6) exclusion of other causes of noncaseating granulomas (Wegener’s granulomatosis, infection, etc)

 

Supportive evidence:

(1) presence of nodules on the septum and/or turbinates

(2) positive Gallium scan

(3) active and/or pulmonary sarcoidosis
